What Is Pediatric Emergency Dentistry?

Pediatric emergency dentistry is immediate dental care for children facing sudden pain, trauma, or infection.

  • Knocked-out or broken teeth
  • Severe toothaches or swelling
  • Dental abscesses or infections
  • Soft tissue injuries to the lips, cheeks, or tongue

We understand that emergencies don’t always follow a 9–5 schedule. That’s why our Independence office keeps time open for same-day visits and responds quickly to urgent calls. From toddlers to teens, our team knows how to comfort kids while delivering expert care when it matters most.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions from our patients

How do I know if it’s really an emergency?

If your child is in significant pain, has facial swelling, bleeding that doesn’t stop, or a visibly damaged tooth, it’s best to call right away. We’ll help determine whether they need to be seen urgently.

What should I do if my child breaks or knocks out a tooth?

For a permanent tooth, gently rinse it and try placing it back in the socket—or store it in milk and call us immediately. For baby teeth, don’t try to reinsert—just give us a call and we’ll take it from there.

Is it better to go to the ER for a dental emergency?

Hospitals aren’t always equipped for dental-specific care. We recommend calling our office first, we’re prepared to treat dental injuries quickly and comfortably in a kid-friendly setting.

Do you treat dental infections or abscesses?

Yes. We handle dental infections with care, including draining abscesses, prescribing antibiotics if needed, and recommending the next steps for full recovery.
